LARGE EARLY 1900's WWI ERA PIATT COUNTY FOR DEMOCRACY FLAG

Piatt County Flag

This magnificant court house flag is from Piatt County Illinois. The flag is made of heavy wool bunting material sewn together from five panels and designed to hang vertically. The flag measures app. 10' 6" by 15' and with appliqued lettering on both sides that reads "PIATT COUNTY A&N FOR DEMOCRACY". The letters appear to be made of cotton, and although appliqued to both sides, the back side exactly follows the front side making the lettering reversed. There are also 1000 blue stars and 13 gold stars appliqued on both sides. I believe the flag was made in the early 20th century to commerate the Piatt County men who served in either the Civil War or WWI, the gold stars indicating those who did not survive, but have not as yet been able to verify it.
