This offering is for a wonderful late 19th century Penobscot Native American Indian Wooden War Club. The club features a dogs head with red glass bead eyes. The club was carved as is typical using the branches natural shape to advantage. There are two rows of carved stud decorations at the neck and additional carved decorations on the handle. The club has remnants of the original red and blue painted surfaces as well as some of it's early varnish finish still visible. The club was well designed with a simple elegance that quite possibly predates those the were made for the tourist trade that tended to be considerably fancier.
