This wonderful carved powder horn dates from the 1840's to 1860's and it exhibits both the carvers skill and his ingenuity of design. The horn features a wonderfully scalloped design at both the neck and the base with a shield in the center of the body all in fairly high relief. The shield and base carvings are also darker in color than the rest of the horn. The carver also designed the horn to be fitted with a manufactured brass dispenser top, something I have rarely seen. The condition is outstanding with wonderful warm patina that just begs you to pick it up and admire it.
